40 Hours Devotion
The 40 Hours Devotion, introduced into Rome by St. Philip Neri in 1548, is the adoration of the exposed Eucharist for a period of 40 hours, in honor of the time Our Lord spent in the tomb. St. John Neumann, fourth bishop of Philadelphia, brought the Forty Hours Devotion to the United States.
St. Martin's 40 Hour Devotion is held once a month, from Wednesday after the 8 a.m. Mass through the First Friday of the month concluding with Benediction at 3:00 p.m. (Yes, this results in 54 1/2 hours!)
