Dear Humans,

Screen Shot 2019 08 14 At 3.38.53 PmHere I am with a SLOTH that I stole from the SVDP bin in the church. (I'm sorry, I couldn't help myself!)

When I think of a SLOTH, I think of the upside-down two-or-three clawed tree-dwelling critter that gets me excited and barking.

But there is a kind of SLOTH that is entirely different.

My good friend, Thomas Aquinas the Border Collie, tells me that SLOTH is a kind of sadness. In the face of some spiritual good which we are meant to achieve, SLOTH is that "I - don't - give - a - WOOF" feeling that overwhelms us. Discovering that the practice of prayer, charity, avoiding sin, and keeping up religious practices is fraught with difficulties, and since it becomes boring and tedious, the soul grows sluggish. "Life is too hard!" we might say. "I want excitement! I want something new!"

It seems to me that SLOTH is the soul having a mid-life crisis. Those never end well, do they? I asked Daddy about this problem. "Dash, you're my mid-life crisis!" he said. What does that mean? "Well, I decided to conquer SLOTH by finding one of God's precious creatures to love."

Rediscovering love - the remedy for SLOTH!

WOOF!
